| Think Ibiza, think party, think again. There’s no denying that
Ibiza is one of the most popular party island destination, probably
in the world, but if you can get up in the morning and see the
daytime, you’ll find that this charming island has a different side
to it. The island of Ibiza can be found in the Mediterranean Sea;
it’s the third largest in the group of islands known as the Balearic
Islands. Its close proximity to the coast of Spain means that it’s a
popular destination. Ibiza’s history stretches a long, long way back
to its first known settlers in 654BC when the Phoenician’s decided
to live there. The Greeks and the Romans have both settled there
both leaving their distinct marks on the landscape with temples and
buildings. They weren’t the only influence on Ibiza with Spain
unsurprisingly having a big impact when it ruled the island but in
the 1970’s the Statute of Autonomy of the Balearic Islands came into
place.
We can’t look at Ibiza and not take a peek at the party scene
which attracts thousands of nocturnal tourists, especially in the
summer. With large nightclubs and world famous DJ’s like Pete Tong
and Carl Cox guest appearing, if you like clubbing then this is the
only place to be. Clubbing will most likely mean that you won’t see
much of any daylight but your average clubber is more than happy to
forego this in order to experience some of the best music around.
With the party season starting in June and finishing in October,
it’s a big source of income and a big deal in Ibiza.
With its party scene fully established on the island the local
tourist office is trying it’s best to encourage other types of
visitors to come to the island and in particular the families. This
could be the perfect mix; you would have the families enjoying the
island in the daytime and the clubbers at night. If you are thinking
of visiting with your family then there are plenty of things to keep
you all occupied. The beach is a great place to start your holiday,
grab a sun bed, apply your lotion and settle down for some serious
rest and relaxation. If the sun becomes too much for you then take a
dip in the sea or head to one of the family friendly cafe or
restaurants where you can enjoy a variety of different cuisines.
If you want to take a break from the beach then you can go visit
one of the UNESCO world heritage sites, its town centre complete
with cobbled stone streets is one of them. The town is beautiful,
you become quickly absorbed in its streets and shops, you can buy
most things in the town from vital toiletry supplies to laced
tablecloth gifts for those who weren’t lucky enough to be on the
trip with you.
While it’s quite possible to visit the island for the weekend if
you live in Europe, most people visit for at least a week or more as
there is so much to enjoy here and a large percentage of tourists to
Ibiza go back again and again and again... |
